About Belleville:

Belleville is a city located in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,997.

It has been called birthplace of techno music, namely having been home to Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, commonly known as the Belleville Three, who were instrumental in its creation.

Belleville's rich tradition in music continues in its High School Band Program. The program was founded by Nicholas Falcone, and has a current enrollment of over 300 members. Its marching band is one of the largest in the state, boasting over 270 members. The "Marching Tigers" have been to several bowl games and marched twice in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Belleville High School Symphony Band has participated in adjudications at State Band Festival, Bands of American National Concert Band Invitational, the Midwestern Conference on Vocal and Instrumental Music, the New York Wind Band Festival, twice in the National Concert Band Invitational in New York City, and at other venues around the United States. One of the most notable directors of the band program is Edward J. Downing, who served as the president of Interlochen Center for the Arts from 1998-2003. The current director of bands is Mr. Nicholas Taylor, who replaced Mr. Michael Van Tassel after his promotion to Assistant Principal at the high school.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.0 km2 (1.2 mi2). 3.0 km2 (1.1 mi2) of it is land and 0.1 km2 (0.04 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 3.42% water.
